NUTRITION

Did you know that red blood cells have a lifespan of about 120 days?

That means that every four months, our body has completely replaced all of our blood with new blood cells, and that these new blood cells are comprised entirely of what food was eaten and what nutrients were absorbed for the last four months. The same goes for our soft tissues, our bones and eventually our brain.

This means several things: most significantly, if we are giving our body inferior material – healthy, nutritious food – to work with, it will create an inferior product – A HEALTHY MIND AND BODY.

If we make a positive change and stick with it for four months, we should feel a significant difference by the end of that time, because all of the blood coursing through our veins will have been affected by this positive change.

Many chronic health issues can be prevented, alleviated and remedied with a nutritionally sound diet, whose purpose will be TO GENERATE ENERGY.

The foundational cornerstones of the diet will be a limitation of inflammation: low levels of Omega-6 foods, a high concentration of Omega-3-laden protein sources,  limited fructose and carbohydrate intake, and limited use of foods known to cause nutrient depletion or nutrient loss in the gut, acknowledging the importance of the BRAIN GUT AXIS in organisational health.

Functional medicine recognises the critical importance of addressing nutritional interventions as part of a person’s personalised therapeutic strategy. Functional nutrition is a systems-based and personalised approach that helps reveal nutritional imbalances and possible root causes, triggers, and perpetuators of chronic diseases and conditions while also providing a therapeutic path using nutrient-dense dietary treatments and prevention strategies.

Functional Nutritional Therapy focuses on balancing body chemistry, improving digestion, managing stress, and correcting nutritional deficiencies TO ACHIEVE OPTIMAL HEALTH. It uses Functional Clinical Assessments to identify the root cause of nutritional imbalances and to create tailored dietary/lifestyle plans.

No disease that can be treated by diet should be treated with any other means.” – Maimonides
